About this blog

Welcome to Rein It In! My intention for this blog is to help those wanting to get into western horse showing. So what makes this blog different?

I’m currently have a 9-5 job and juggling a horse with a job can be difficult!

It wasn’t until recently that I decided to get into horse showing and found that there was a lack of information available for those who 1) do not intend to go professional, 2) have other life commitments (kids, work, travel, etc.), and 3) have no/limited experience with showing. So I’m learning as I go and plan to document my experience for those who are curious.

I have limited experience with performance horses and proper horse lessons. I grew up on a cattle ranch in West Texas where I had countless hours working with stock horses who were jacks of all trades but masters of none. I had always had the desire to show horses but there was no time for showing and our horses were not show worthy. I moved away from home for college and between classes, part time jobs, and internships, I had no time for a horse. Fast forward 8 years and after a small raise and some freedom in my schedule, I decided to take the plunge and feed that desire to show a horse.

So here I am, with a 4 year old quarter horse mare and a desire to become a better horse person. My goal is to post about once a week but if you have any questions, feel free to contact me and I’ll do my best to answer your question. If I don’t know it, I’ll find out!
